NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College by a score of 87-50 at home Wednesday evening.
Westminster (18-5, 11-3 PAC) was red hot in the first quarter, dropping 29 points in the opening frame to take a 29-17 lead over Geneva (2-18, 1-12 PAC). In the second quarter, junior
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) lit up the scoreboard with 16 points, including four three-pointers to give the Titans a commanding 49-26 lead going into the halftime break. The Titans extended their lead to 71-41 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to victory in the fourth.
Westminster shot a season-best 50.0% (33-66) from the field, as well as a season-best 48% from beyond the arc. The Titans also shot 75% (9-12) from the charity stripe. The Titans bested the Golden Tornadoes on the glass, 55-39. The Titans' 55 rebounds were one short of their season-high. Westminster forced 19 turnovers and scored 14 points off of those miscues. The Titans also recorded 13 offensive rebounds and 12 steals.
Greaves led the way with a career-high 25 points and had 23 of those points in the first half. Greaves was 8-16 from the floor and tied a career-high with five three-pointers. Greaves also ripped down six rebounds. First-year
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) followed with 13 points and finished one board shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Junior
Ashley Russell (Belle Vernon, PA / Belle Vernon) finished in double figures with a career-high 11 points off the bench on a 4-6 night from the floor. First-year
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) finished with nine points and recorded three steals, while senior
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) tallied nine points and had a game-high five assists. Sophomore
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) had nine points and a team-high four steals. Senior
Kayla Bennett contributed six points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior
Maggie Monahan (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) earned a career-high six rebounds as well as a career-high four blocks.
Westminster will be back on the court on Saturday, February 15 when it takes on Bethany College on the road in a conference matchup at 1 p.m.
