Men’s Basketball: Titans Fall to Grove City in OT

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 91-80, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City College in overtime Saturday.

Grove City (8-7, 5-2 PAC) jumped out to a 15-4 lead five minutes into the game. Westminster (10-7, 5-3 PAC) continued to battle for the rest of the half and tied the game at 31, after a three-pointer by junior Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon), with 2:30 left. The Titans took a late lead (36-34) with 17 seconds left off a layup by junior Clay O'Dell (Vienna, OH / Kennedy Catholic). Grove City tied it at 36 with a buzzer-beater going into halftime.

The Wolverines retook the lead to start the second half and held a nine-point, 52-43 lead with 12:41 to go. The Titans once again showed resiliency as they went on an 18-8 run and went up by one (61-60), following a pair of free throws by senior Preston Stitt (Boardman, OH / South Range). Three lead changes ensued and Stamatiades made a clutch three with a minute left in regulation to tie the game at 70. It was all Grove City in overtime as the Wolverines outscored the Titans 21-10.

Stitt led the Titan offense with a career-high 20 points (6-of-11), which included 7-for-9 shooting at the free throw line (also a career-mark). Stitt additionally notched a career-best five rebounds, to go along with two assists and a steal. Stamatiades (19) and junior Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) (13) also scored in double-digits and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds each. Stamatiades led the Titans with four threes (tying a career-high). Junior Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) added nine points and five boards. O'Dell finished with seven points.

Grove City outshot Westminster 50.9% (29-57) to 41.9% (26-62). The Titans outrebounded the Wolverines, 39-35.

Westminster is back in action Saturday, January 25 when it hosts defending PAC Champion Chatham University at 3:30 p.m.
