ERIE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team split their two matches in the final day of the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday.
Titan sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Westminster (8-1) swept Fredonia (2-5) in its first match, 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-2). Sophomore
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) (11) and senior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) (10) both had double-digit kills. Adelman added seven kills, while tying a match-high with four blocks. Senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) led the defense with 21 digs, followed by DeGeorge with 18. DeGeorge also registered a match-high three service aces. Sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a team-best 15 assists, while junior
Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) had 14.
Mount Union (7-2) handed Westminster its first loss in the second match with a score of 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, and 25-15). DeGeorge led the Titans in kills with eight, followed by Steward and Adelman with seven and six, respectively. First-year
Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) added a team- and career-high three blocks. Kelly (13) and Moore (10) both had double-digit assists. Toporcer (18), DeGeorge (14), and Steward (10) all had double-figure digs.
Westminster will next host a tri-match on Saturday, September 14. The Titans will host Grove City at 10 a.m. in their Presidents' Athletics Conference (PAC) opener and Bethany at 2 p.m.
