Football: Titans Off to Best Start in 22 Years with PAC Win at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. – The Westminster College football team remained undefeated on the season as they won, 45-9, at Bethany College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road contest Saturday night after an hour and a half delay due to the weather.

The Titans improved to a perfect 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the PAC, for their best start in 22 years (1997: W-West Liberty State, W-Mansfield, W-St. Ambrose, and W-Tiffin).

Bethany (1-3, 1-2 PAC) scored first with a 54-yard run by Carlin Bason on its opening drive, putting Westminster behind for the first time this season. The Titans, however, answered with two-straight rushing touchdowns, courtesy of senior Tyler Greene (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), and led for the rest of the night. Greene now has a PAC-best seven total touchdowns this year. Following a field goal by Bethany's Sean Cole in the second quarter, the Titans mustered 34 unanswered points for the rest of the game.

Senior Keano Grice (Delray Beach, FL / West Boca Raton) started the scoring spree with a career-long 44-yard touchdown run, after plowing through a Bethany defender then sprinting past another one. The score was Grice's fourth rushing touchdown this year, marking a career-best. Senior Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown) caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Cole Konieczka (Coraopolis, PA / Moon Area) to put the Titans in front, 28-9, at halftime. Cox now has a career-high four receiving touchdowns this year, tying him for first in the league.

Freshman Tanner Dudek (Leechburg, PA / Leechburg Area) made a 34-yard field goal, to go along with a 6-for-6 mark in point-after-touchdowns. Dudek is now a perfect 3-for-3 in field goals and 27-for-27 in PATs this season.

The Titans added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including a 23-yard run by senior Bryce Hill (Boynton Beach, FL / Boca Raton Community) for his first of the season and a 2-yard run by sophomore Max Reamer (New Castle, PA / Shenango) for the first of his collegiate career.

Westminster compiled 508 yards in total offense, the most since 2017 (531 vs. Saint Vincent). Konieczka threw for 19-of-27 with a season-high 259 yards and a score. Hill ran for a game-high 82 yards off nine carries (9.1 avg.). Senior Dwayne Brown (Richmond Heights, OH / Richmond Heights) caught four passes for a game- and career-best 86 yards. Senior Joey Lane (Frederick, MD / Oakdale) led the Titan defense with six tackles (including a team-high two for a loss), followed by senior Paul Gonzalez (Miami, FL / Florida Christian) with five. Sophomore Branden Millward (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) earned the first sack of his collegiate career. Westminster did give up a sack and remains tied first in the NCAA in that category.

Westminster will next travel to Case Western Reserve for the battle of undefeated PAC teams on Saturday, Oct. 5. The PAC showdown will kick off at 7 p.m.
