NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College Women's Tennis team remained undefeated on the season following its sixth-straight victory on Friday afternoon.
Westminster defeated non-conference foe, the University of Mount Union, by a final score of 6-3. The Titans improved to 6-0 with the victory, while Mount Union fell to 0-1 to open up its season. With the victory, Westminster avenged a 7-2 loss suffered at the hands of the Purple Raiders last season.
Seniors
Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) and
Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) both claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Mason scored the victory in tie-breaking fashion by a score of 6-7 (3), 6-1 (10-1). Marzouca dispatched her opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Junior
Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) and first-year
Sabrina Slagle claimed the other singles victories for the Titans, winning by scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-3, respectively. Westminster also claimed two out of the three doubles matches.
The Titans will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 18 when they re-open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on the road against Geneva College at 6 p.m.
