UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio. - The Westminster College women's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent John Carroll University, 2-1, to mark the first loss of the season for the Titans.
Westminster fell to 1-1 on the year, while John Carroll improved to 2-0.
In the first half, the Blue Streaks struck with the first goal of the game in the 18th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. The Titans managed to fire eight shots in the first half, compared to nine for John Carroll, but trailed 1-0 heading into the break.
In the second half, first-year
Julia Redilla (Harmony, PA / Seneca Valley) picked up her second goal of the season off of a combo assist from seniors
Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) and
Gabrielle Diamond (Moon Township, PA / Moon) in the 55th minute to knot the game up at 1-1. The Blue Streaks answered just six minutes later, as Casey Lindstrom found the back of the net to give John Carroll a 2-1 lead, a lead that held for the rest of the contest.
Trozzi and Redilla led the Titans with three shots apiece, while senior
Kiki Kawarizadeh (New Albany, OH / New Albany) and sophomore
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) each tallied two shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) registered a game-high six saves for the Titans.
John Carroll led with 18 shots compared to the Titans' 13 shots, while Westminster led with six corner kicks opposed to two for the Blue Streaks.
The Titans return to the pitch Wednesday, September 4, when they take on Penn State Altoona at home inside Harold Bury Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
