Box Score 2 LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won both of its matches in day one of the Saint Vincent College Bearcat Challenge on Friday.
The Titans improved to 2-0 on the season.
Westminster topped LaRoche, 3-1 (25-13, 17-25, 25-16, 25-19), in game one, and swept Oberlin, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) in game two.
In game one, senior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) led the Titans with 13 kills, while sophomore
Maya Steward (Los Angelas, CA / William Howard Taft) compiled nine kills and three service aces. Sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished a team-high 22 assists, and first-year
Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) notched 16 assists of her own. DeGeorge and senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) each tallied a team-high 14 digs in the match. Junior
Megan Steele (Corry, PA / Corry), sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo), and first-year
Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes) each added two solo blocks.
In game two, Steward led the way for Westminster with 11 kills, and DeGeorge followed closely behind with eight kills and three service aces. Snyder registered a team-best 15 assists, and Kelly compiled eight assists of her own. Toporcer led the Titan defense with 13 digs, while Adelman compiled three solo blocks.
The Titans will finish out the Bearcat Challenge tomorrow with a 12 p.m. match against Alfred University and a 4 p.m. contest against Allegheny College.
