Baseball: Titans Split PAC Doubleheader with Chatham on Senior Day

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team split with Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
 
The Titans lost game one, 13-2, and won game two, 5-4.

Chatham (7-28) led 6-0 after three innings of play. Westminster (14-21) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Titan freshman Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) scored the first run with a ground-out, scoring senior Dante Parente (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk). Freshman Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) followed with an RBI-single to left field, bringing home junior Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park). The Cougars added three more runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh. Parente had a team-high two hits, while Barnot added a double. Parente (2-4) got the start, pitching five innings, while giving up only two earned runs (nine total) on nine hits. Parente struck out one and walked one.
 
In game two, the Titans immediately jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of RBI base-hits from Barnot and junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley). Westminster added two more runs in the second inning when Cinicola and reigning PAC Rookie of the Week Dawson Porter (Kittaning, PA / Armstrong) notched RBI base-hits to extend the Titans' lead to 5-0. Chatham fired back with four runs in the top half of the sixth inning to cut the Titans' lead to 5-4. However, those were the only runs senior Corey Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) gave up in the game, as the Titans held the Cougars off the board for the rest of the game. Cinicola and freshman Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) led the Titans offensively with two hits apiece. Pullen (4-4) tossed eight innings on the mound, scattering 12 hits, giving up one earned run (four total), and notched six strikeouts. Junior Dante Siekno (Wexford,PA / Pine-Richland) recorded the save, his second of the season.
 
The Titans' last scheduled game of the season is set for Sunday, May 5 at Chatham for a single, nine-inning game at 1 p.m.
