Baseball: Titans Fall in PAC Matchup Against Presidents

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team was defeated by Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College, 8-3, at home Sunday afternoon.

Washington & Jefferson (17-7, 12-0 PAC) kicked off the scoring early with an RBI-single in its at-bat. However, Westminster (9-11, 4-5 PAC) quickly ended the threat with a pop-out and two strikeouts. The Titans answered in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own after a lead-off triple by freshman Dawson Porter (Kittaning, PA / Armstrong) and took a 2-1 lead. The Presidents added two more runs in the top of the second to regain the lead, 3-2. The Titans once again would answer with a run of their own with junior Tyler Barnot's (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) second RBI-single of the game to tie the game at three. The Presidents broke the tie in the top of the fifth and added two more runs in the top of the sixth to give them a 6-3 lead. W&J tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to extend its lead to five.

Barnot finished with a game-high three hits and a team-high two RBIs. Barnot also added a run in the contest. Porter finished with a run and a triple, his first career extra-base hit. Freshman James Diamond (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) finished the contest with one hit and one run. Junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) also recorded an RBI.

Titan senior pitcher Cory Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) moved to 3-2 on the season, throwing six innings allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Westminster will next play a doubleheader at home against PAC foe Saint Vincent College on Tuesday, April 9 with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
