NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept a doubleheader against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College at home on Thursday. The Titans won the first game, 12-7, and won game two, 9-0 in five innings.
 
In game one, Westminster (14-16, 7-7 PAC) tallied the first runs of the game when junior Lauren McNany (Emlenton, PA / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) doubled to right-center field, scoring first-year Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills) to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.  Later in the inning, first-year Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) chipped in with an RBI-single to extend Westminster's lead to 2-0. Bethany (7-17, 5-7 PAC) tallied two runs in the top of the third inning. The Titans quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame, tacking on four runs, capped off by an RBI-single by sophomore Breanna Tetirick (New Concord, OH / John Glenn) to push the Titans lead to 6-2. The Bison responded with four runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on four errors by the Titans, to knot the game back up (6-6). The Titans regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, when sophomore Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) tripled down the line in right field to jump-start the Titan offensive charge. Woodings promptly singled to left field, bringing home Bedalota, giving the Titans a 7-6 lead. The Titans went on to score five more insurance runs in the contest. Brown started on the mound, picking up the victory for Westminster. The reigning PAC Pitcher of the Week tossed a complete game, scattering eight hits, giving up seven runs (two earned), and striking out three batters. McNany had a career-high four hits in game one to lead the Titans. She also added two runs and three RBIs. Woodings tallied three hits to go along with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
 
In game two, the Titans jumped on the board immediately with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, capped off by an RBI-single by sophomore Alexis Brinza (McKees Rocks, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) to give the Titans an early 2-0 lead. Westminster added two more runs in the second inning and exploded in the third inning with five runs to extend its lead to 9-0.  Woodings, McNany, sophomore Leigha Knox (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley), and senior Cheyenne Shifflett (Etters, PA / Trinity) each contributed with RBI base hits during the third inning. First-year pitcher Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) notched the victory for Westminster, tossing all five innings, giving up only one hit, no earned runs, and tallying one strikeout.
 
The Titans improved to 14-16 overall and 7-7 in the PAC.  Bethany fell to 7-19 overall and 5-7 in the conference.
 
Westminster will be back on the field on Wednesday, April 24 when it travels to Meadville, Pa. to take on Allegheny College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
