Baseball: Titans Fall at Home to Yellow Jackets

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team lost to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University, 8-2, at home on Tuesday.
 
Waynesburg (17-14, 11-5 PAC) scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning. Westminster (10-16, 5-9 PAC) answered shortly after in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-single by freshman Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia). In the bottom of the fifth, senior Hunter Alexander (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) scored to give the Titans a 2-1 lead. Waynesburg answered back by scoring six runs in the top of the sixth inning and one in the top of the seventh. Waynesburg held the Titans scoreless after the fifth inning.
 
Titan junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) tied a team-high with two hits and also recorded a walk and a stolen base. Freshman Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) also tallied two hits, one of which was a double, and scored the Titans' first run of the game. Alexander finished with a single, two walks, a run, and a stolen base. Also recording a steal was Schrader, who added an RBI. Freshmen Dawson Porter (Kittaning, PA / Armstrong) and James Diamond (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) joined junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) with a hit apiece.
 
Titan senior starting pitcher Dante Parente (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) moved to 1-2 on the season after giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks, while striking out six over 5.2 innings.
 
Baseball will next play Thiel College in a home doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 starting at 1 p.m. (the doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 20).
