Baseball: Titans Fall to John Carroll in Non-Conference Action

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 21-9, to John Carroll University in non-conference action at home Wednesday evening.
 
Westminster (10-13) took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) started the scoring with an RBI-double. Junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) and sophomore Vincent Morelli (Ambridge, PA / Ambridge Area) both followed with an RBI-single. John Carroll (19-7) responded with three runs in the top of the second to tie the game at three. The Titans regained the lead in the bottom of third with a pair of runs, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Cinicola and another RBI-single by Johnson. After both scored a run in the fourth, the Blue Streaks pulled away with four runs in the fifth, six in the sixth, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth. The Titans added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth.
 
Four Titans had multiple hits, led by Cinicola and Johnson with three hits each. Cinicola also tallied a game-high three extra-base hits, including two doubles and a triple. Cinicola also registered a team-high four RBIs and now has 17 on the season. Johnson added two RBIs and now has a team-best 21 on the season. Freshman James Diamond (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) and Johnson each added a double. Junior pitcher Emilio Rivera (Tampa, FL / Armwood) (0-1) got the start and went 4.1 innings, while giving up seven runs on 11 hits and walking three.
 
Westminster will next host Waynesburg University in a nine-inning PAC game Friday, April 12 at 4 p.m.
