Women’s Lacrosse: Ohio Valley Uses Strong Second Half to Top Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's lacrosse team lost, 20-8, to the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots at home Sunday afternoon.
 
Westminster (4-2) got off to a fast start with a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes; two goals by junior Bria Braddock (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) (28:30 and 26:56) and one by senior Emily D'Amico (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) (28:47), who also recorded an assist on Braddock's second goal. Ohio Valley (4-2), however, scored four-straight goals of its own, taking a 4-3 lead with 19:27 left in the half. The Titans would score two more, one by junior Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) (18:51) and one by D'Amico (17:40), to put the Titans back in front 5-4. Ohio Valley would answer with two more goals to regain the lead, 6-5, at the 14:02 mark. The Titans would tie the game again (6-6) with a goal by Braddock (9:51). Ohio Valley answered with two goals to take an 8-6 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half, Mason opened the scoring with a goal for the Titans (29:16) to cut the Ohio Valley's lead to one (8-7). The Fighting Scots, however, took over after scoring 10 unanswered goals; the last one coming at the 14:14 mark to take a commanding 18-7 lead. Braddock ended the Titans' scoring skid with another goal (12:54) to make it 18-8.
 
Braddock led the Titans with four goals and six ground balls. Mason and D'Amico also added two goals each. First-year goalkeeper Emma Bradley (South Fayette, PA / South Fayette) finished with a season-high 13 saves.
 
The Fighting Scots outshot the Titans, 40-14, and recorded more ground balls, 24-12. The Titans led in draw controls, 16-14, led by Mason with a game-high eight.
 
Westminster will be back in action at home against Saint Vincent College Friday, March 29 at 5:30 p.m. for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup of the season.
