Softball: Pitt-Bradford Tops Westminster in DH

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team lost both of their games at Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.The Titans lost game one, 6-1, and game two, 1-0, in eight innings.

In game one, Pitt-Bradford (9-7) was up 6-0 after five innings of play; the Panthers scored one run in the first inning, three in the third, and two in the fourth. Titan sophomore Ashley Chorney (Indian Trail, NC / Porter Ridge) got Westminster (5-9) on the board in the sixth with an RBI-single, scoring first-year Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills). First-year pitcher Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) (2-5) threw four innings, giving up five earned runs on nine hits. Brown struck out one and walked one. Chorney and sophomore Leigha Knox (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) led the Titans with a pair of hits apiece.

The lone run of game two came in the eighth inning when Liz Dzurisin connected on a two-out double, bringing home Grace Dadzaa for the walk-off Pitt-Bradford victory. Westminster outhit Pitt-Bradford, 7-5, led by Madision with two hits. Titan first-year pitcher Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) (3-4) pitched a complete game, giving up only one run on five hits, while striking out three and walking two.

The Titans created scoring opportunities in both games, however, left nine runners on base in each contest.

Westminster will next play at Penn State Behrend in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 26 with game one starting at 3:30 p.m.
