Baseball: Titans Fall to Olivet in High Scoring 9-Inning Game

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 15-10, in a nine-inning game to Olivet College during their Florida spring break trip on Wednesday.

Olivet (2-6) quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game in the first inning. Westminster (2-3) answered with eight unanswered runs between the first (2) and third innings (6) to take an 8-7 lead. Titan freshman Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) scored the tying and go-ahead run with a two-out two-run single in the third, scoring classmates Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) and Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area). The Comets regained the lead in the fifth with two runs (9-8) and extended their lead to 15-8 with four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Titan senior Hunter Alexander (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) singled home junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) in the bottom half of the seventh (15-9) and junior Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) had a ground-out RBI in the ninth for the Titans' final run.

Titan junior Dante Parente (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) (0-1) pitched five innings, while giving up six earned runs on 12 hits. Parente walked one and struck out a career-high 11.
Westminster junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley), Barnot, and Schrader each had a team-high two RBIs.

Olivet led 6-1 in extra-base hits. Barnot had a double.

The Titans will play Keene State College on Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Oceola County Stadium, the previous spring training home of the MLB Houston Astros for over 20 years.
