CLERMONT, Fla. – The Westminster College softball team lost to the Montclair State University Red Hawks, 4-2, in eight innings and shut out the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors, 6-0, with a one-hitter in day two of The Spring Games on Monday.

In game one against Montclair, Westminster (2-2) started the scoring with a single by sophomore Ashley Chorney (Indian Trail, NC / Porter Ridge) that scored classmate Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) in the first inning. The Titans added another run after a lead-off double in the second by sophomore Alexis Brinza (McKees Rocks, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart), who scored on a single by Bedalota. Montclair State (1-1) scored in the third inning, then later in the sixth to tie the game at two where it remained for the remainder of regulation. In the first extra inning (eighth), the Red Hawks scored two and held the Titans scoreless in bottom half of the inning to win 4-2. The Titans were held scoreless for the last six innings of the game. Bedalota recorded a team-high and tied a game-high with three hits on four at bats, including a run and RBI. Junior Lauren McNany (Emlenton, PA / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) finished 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Starting first-year pitcher Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) tossed a complete game, giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts, while also going 1-for-2 at the plate with two sacrifice bunts.

In game two against Eastern Connecticut, the Titans first got on the board with a five-run third inning with runs by first-year Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills), Bedalota, Chorney, McNany, and sophomore Breanna Tetirick (New Concord, OH / John Glenn) and RBIs by Chorney and first-year Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel). In the fourth inning, the Titans added an insurance run on a single by Brown to score Bedalota.  Bedalota had her second multi-hit game of the day going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Chorney reached base in three of her four plate appearances, finishing with a hit, two walks, a run, and an RBI. Starting pitcher Burdelski pitched a complete game shutout with the only Warrior hit in the game coming with one out in the seventh inning. Burdelski also struck out three with only one walk, while adding a hit and an RBI at the plate.

The Titans will continue The Spring Games against Ohio Wesleyan at 9 a.m. and Lakeland at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.
