Baseball: Titans Begin 2019 Season in Florida, Split with Montclair

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team began their 2019 season at the RussMatt Invitational on Sunday. The Titans split a doubleheader with Montclair State University.
 
Westminster (1-1) won game one convincingly, 21-11, for the program's most runs in a single game since 2014. The Titans did most of their damage in the second (five runs), third (six runs), and fourth (eight runs) innings. Westminster added two more in the sixth. The Titans went up 5-0 with two runs in the bottom of the second; freshmen Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) and Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) both had an RBI, while senior Hunter Alexander (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) had a two-run single. Montclair (1-1) tied the game with five runs in top of the third, however, the Titans quickly regained the lead with six runs in the bottom of the third. The Red Hawks also scored two in the fifth and four in the seventh. For the game, Schrader led at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a game-high five RBIs and three runs scored. Alexander, freshman Mike Grazier (Austintown, OH / Austintown-Fitch), and junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) each had three RBIs. Four Titans had extra-base hits, led by junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) who had a pair of doubles. Cinicola also had a game-high four runs scored. Grazier added a double, while Schrader and Johnson each had a triple. Senior pitcher Cory Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) earned the win after throwing four innings and giving up five runs on eight hits. Pullen struck out and walked four.
 
In game two, the Titans seemed to pick up where they left in game one after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Cinicola earned an RBI-triple in the fourth and Alexander registered an RBI-double in the fifth. The Red Hawks, however, put up 10 runs in the fifth and two in the sixth for the 12-2 win. Montclair held Westminster hitless in the final two innings. Titan freshman pitcher Paul Midili (Spring Hill, FL / Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic) went 4.1 innings, while giving up seven runs on nine hits. Midili struck out two and walked three.
 
The Titans will continue their Florida trip as they play Martin Luther College in a doubleheader Monday, March 11 with game one starting at 11 a.m.
