BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Westminster College women's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent, Olivet College, by a score of 61-59 on the road on Saturday in the first day of the two-day Bluffton Holiday Tournament.
 
Thus ends Westminster's ten-game winning streak, which officially sets the mark for the longest winning-streak to open a season in program history.
 
Westminster (10-1) engaged in a tight battle early with Olivet (3-8), as both teams were deadlocked at 15-15 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Comets gained a slim 34-33 lead heading into the halftime break. In the third, Olivet utilized a 7-0 run midway through the period to gain a 43-36 lead with 4:09 remaining in the third and held a 38-32 lead going into the final frame. In the fourth, the Titans reclaimed the lead after sophomore guard Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) buried two consecutive three-pointers to make the score 57-56 with 1:02 left in the game. On the next possession, Olivet hit a three of their own to take a 59-57 lead but Westminster answered with a layup from senior Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) to tie the game at 59-59 with :31 to play. On the final possession of the game, Olivet drew a foul and sank two free throws to claim the victory by a final score of 61-59.
 
The Titans shot 32.2% (19-59) from the field and shot 45% (9-20) from beyond the arc, while Olivet had a 38.9% (21-54) field goal percentage. The Titans forced 15 turnovers, out rebounded the Comets 38-36 and generated 17 total assists.
 
Senior guard Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) led the way for Westminster, as she tied a career-high with 17 points on a 5-6 mark from the field and a 4-5 mark from long range. Lyczek's four made three-pointers also tied her career-high. Bennett finished with 10 points and grabbed down a team-high eight rebounds. Polczynski finished with eight points and knocked down a pair of shots from beyond the arc.
 
Westminster will be back on the court on tomorrow when it takes on Bluffton University in the second day of the two-day Bluffton Holiday Tournament at 5 p.m.
