WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent, Waynesburg University, by a score of 81-69 on the road on Monday.
Westminster (9-0, 3-0 PAC) jumped out to a quick 15-6 lead over Waynesburg (1-7, 0-3 PAC) at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets battled to trail the Titans 29-21 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, Waynesburg mounted a slight comeback and cut the Titans lead to seven entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Titans had four starters with three or more personal fouls, but relied on their bench to seal the victory.
The Titans shot 39.7% (27-68) from the field, including an 83.9% (26-31) mark from the free throw line. Waynesburg was 26.8% (19-71) from the field. The Titans forced 20 turnovers, generating 16 points off of turnovers and out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 47-44. Westminster also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds in the contest and dished out 13 assists.
Senior forward
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) led the way for the Titans with a game-high 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season and the third of her career. First-year guard
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) contributed 12 points and was 4-4 form the free throw line. First-year guard
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) and seniors guard
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) and forward
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) each chipped in 11 points in the winning effort. Murrio's 11 points marked a career-high for the first year. Fromknecht had a game-high four assists and tied a game-high with 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) finished in double figures with 10 points.
Westminster will be back on the court Wednesday, December 18 at home against Hiram College for a non-conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
