Football: Titans Hold Off Geneva on Senior Day

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College football team won, 28-25, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

The Titans were up 28-3 in the fourth quarter, however, the Golden Tornadoes (3-7) made it interesting with 22 unanswered points.

Geneva struck first with a 32-yard field goal with 9:38 left in the first quarter. Westminster responded on its ensuing possession with an 11-play, 67-yard drive, capped off with an eight-yard touchdown run by senior Tyler Greene (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle) with 3:44 left in first quarter. The Titans led, 7-3, at the end of one.

Midway through the second quarter, the Titans extended their lead (14-3) after a 43-yard run by senior Keano Grice (Delray Beach, FL / West Boca Raton) set up a 10-yard touchdown run by fellow classmate Bryce Hill (Boynton Beach, FL / Boca Raton Community) with 7:50 on the clock. The score remained 14-3 at intermission.

The Titans added a defensive touchdown in the third quarter when senior Darius Doty (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) forced a fumble and sophomore Ian Barr (State College, PA / State College Area) collected it and went 18 yards to the end zone. Westminster led 21-3 at the end of three.

Grice showed off his arm in the beginning of the fourth, finding senior Chase Collison (Madisonburg, PA / Penns Valley) for a 16-yard touchdown off a half-back pass, putting the Titans up 28-3 with 13:11 to go.

Geneva began its rally attempt with a 16-yard touchdown run by Ricky Pitrelli (28-10) with 13 minutes left. The Golden Tornadoes took advantage of a Westminster turnover and scored courtesy of an 11-yard touchdown run by Nick Monteleone, cutting Westminster's lead to 28-17 with 4:33 on the clock. With under a minute to play, Geneva blocked a Westminster punt and recovered it in the end zone. The Golden Tornadoes' two-point conversion was successful and only trailed by three (28-25) with 29 seconds left. Geneva's squib was recovered by Westminster and the Titans held on to close out the regular season with a win.

Cox led all receivers as he tied a career-high with eight catches for 123 yards (his third 100-yard receiving game of the year). Cox surpassed 2,000 career receiving yards, becoming only the third Titan ever to do so. Cox finished the regular season with 2,048 career receiving yards, only 13 yards shy from tying second all-time in school history (Matt Dvorsak (1995-99)). Grice ran for a team-high 63 yards.

Leading the Westminster defense were freshman Luca Botti (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood City), sophomore Ian Barr (State College, PA / State College Area), and Darius Doty (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) who each had seven tackles. Barr and senior Joey Lane (Frederick, MD / Oakdale) each had a sack.

Westminster finishes its regular season 7-3 overall an 6-3 in the PAC.
