ERIE, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened up their respective season's at non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.
The Westminster women (1-0) won by a score of 190-106. The Titan men (0-1) lost by a score of 187-109.
The Titan women started the meet with a victory in the 200-medley relay. Seniors
Gabie Johnson (Dover-Foxcroft, ME / Foxcroft Academy) and
Abigail Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) paired with first-years
Shannon Greer (Greensburg, PA / Hempfield Area) and
Baylee Horvath (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) to win with a time 1:58.98. Jones also finished second in the 200-freestyle and 500-freestyle on the day. Johnson also won the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:05.22 and Greer scored a victory in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:23.36. Horvath's time of 25.86 in the 50-freestyle was also good enough to win the event. In the 1000-freestyle, sophomore
Megan Routch (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) won the event with a time of 11:58.76, senior
Caitlyn Peace (Darlington, PA / Blackhawk) finished second in the same event with a time of 12:09.92. In the 100-breaststroke, senior
Maggie Manolis (Jeannette, PA / Jeannette) won with a time of 1:12.91. Manolis also finished second in the 200-breaststroke. Sophomore
Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) won the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:25.56. Grimenstein also finished third in the 200-breaststroke and finished second in the 200 IM. Senior
Courtney Kinkead (Greensburg, PA / Greater Latrobe) picked up a win in the 100-freestyle with a time of 1:00.08. In the Women's 1-meter dive, junior
Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area) and sophomore
Jamie Elia (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) finished first and second place with scores of 211.45 and 207.45, respectively. In the 3-meter dive, Elia won with a score of 219.05 and senior
Kaitlyn Fast (Wooster, OH / Wooster) finished second with a score of 211.25.
For the men, the team of seniors
Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) and
Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and sophomore
Jacob Musselman (Denver, PA / Cocalico) and
Trevor McCabe (Avon, NY / Avon Central) finished second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:40.02. Dunlany also finished second in the 200-freestyle and the 200-IM. Kwalick won the 100-backstroke with a time of 56.90 and the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:03.75 while McCabe finished second in the 100-breaststroke. Connor May (Highlands Ranch, CO / Glacier Park) and sophomore
Patrick Holton garnered first and second-place finishes with scores of 307.15 and 229.50, respectively. Both divers finished in the same spot in the 3-meter dive with scores of 315.80 and 283.85, respectively.
Westminster is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 at home against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m.
