NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team defeated their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) counterpart, Grove City, by a score of 2-0 at home on Wednesday. With the win, Westminster jumped to first place in the PAC standings with a conference record of 3-0-1.
Westminster (8-5-2, 3-0-1 PAC) got on the board in the 30
th minute when first-year forward
Julia Redilla (Harmony, PA / Harmony) was fouled inside the box, granting her a penalty kick. Redilla promptly snuck a shot past the Grove City (6-6-2, 3-1-0 PAC) keepers' high side to give Westminster a 1-0 lead, a lead it would take into halftime.
In the second half, Westminster collected an insurance goal when sophomore forward
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) fired a shot from 30 yards out over the keeper for a highlight reel goal to extend the Titans lead to 2-0.
The Wolverines outshot the Titans (25-16) and narrowly held the edge in corner kicks (5-4).
The two goals scored by the Titans proved to be all that were needed for sophomore goalkeeper
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman), who snagged a career-high 15 saves in the complete-game shutout. Holzschuh's 15 saves are tied for the second-highest single game total for all PAC goalkeepers this season (16, Columbia Harkrader-Grove City).
Westminster will return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 19 when it takes on Waynesburg University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
