BETHANY, W. Va. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 59-44, at Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday evening.
Westminster (5-10, 3-4 PAC) took its first lead of the game (6-4) in the first quarter after sophomore
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) made a layup with 6:44 on the clock. Bethany (9-6, 4-2 PAC) finished the frame with an 8-0 run and led 12-6 at the end of one. The Titans came out in the second quarter with a 14-5 run, capped off with a layup by junior
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell), and led 20-17 with 4:21 left in the half. Westminster remained in front and led 23-22 at intermission. Bethany jumped out ahead in the third quarter and never trailed, while leading by as much as six points twice – with the latest coming at 39-33 with 1:49 on the clock. Bethany led 39-36 going into the final stanza. The Bison finished strong, outscoring the Titans, 20-8, in the fourth.
Fromknecht scored a game-high 12 points and was one rebound shy from a double-double as she tied a game-high with nine boards, to go along with a team-high three blocks. Greaves totaled 11 points and tied a career-high with seven rebounds. Senior
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) added eight points, while
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) had five. Greaves and first-year
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) each had a team-high two assists. Polczynski also tied with junior
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) for a team-best two steals.
Bethany outshot Westminster 31.0% (13-42) to 30.4% (17-56) and held a 45-38 advantage in rebounds.
The Titans will host Grove City College Saturday, January 12 at 1:30 p.m.
