NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College football team remained undefeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play as it won, 21-3, over Bethany College in its home-opener Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
John Cybak (Massillon, OH / Tuslaw) put Westminster (3-1, 3-0 PAC) up 6-0 after a pair of field goals (38, 37) in the second quarter. Freshman
Bryce Thomas (Saint Marys, GA / Camden County) set up Westminster's first touchdown of the game with a 72-yard interception return to the Titans' two-yard line. Junior
Isiah Canton (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton) ran it in on the next play. Junior
Connor Cox (Ridge. MD / Leonardtown) found classmate
Joey Joy (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) with a pass for a successful two-point conversion to put the Titans ahead 14-3 with 2:08 left.
Bethany (2-2, 2-1 PAC) scored its only points with a field goal in the final seconds of the first half.
Titan junior
Aaron Pierce (Fort Lauderdale, FL / Hollywood) ended back-to-back Bethany drives in the fourth quarter with an interception, while taking the second one 18 yards for a score.
Senior
Bryson Paulinellie (DuBois, PA / Dubois Area) led all receivers with five catches for 83 yards. Junior
Bryce Hill (Boynton Beach, FL / Boca Raton Community) ran it for a team-high 45 yards. Junior
Paul Gonzalez (Miami, FL / Florida Christian) led the Titan defense with eight tackles, while senior
Bill Madeja (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) had seven tackles to go along with a pick. Westminster totaled four interceptions.
The Titans outgained the Bison in yards, 220 (130 passing, 90 rushing) to 191 (87 passing, 104 rushing).
Westminster will next host Case Western Reserve University next Saturday, September 29 under the lights of Harold Burry Stadium.
