Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer: Titans Start Season Strong, Defeat Penn State Beaver 8-0

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Westminster College men's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Penn State Beaver, 8-0, on the road in the Defiance College Tournament Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster (1-0) took no time in scoring the first of its eight goals, with junior Ahmed Cisse (Germantown, MD / Clarksburg) scoring at the 1:18 mark in the first half. Sophomore Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) connected with the back of the net ten minutes later, giving the Titans a 2-0 lead. At the 17:49 mark of the first, Iregui took a midfield pass from junior Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) and hit the back of the net, giving Iregui his second goal of the game and Westminster a 3-0 lead. Iregui then found Mattocks (23:48) to put the Titans up 4-0.
 
At the 49:49 mark of the second half, freshman Sam Accordino (Canfield, OH / Canfield) scored his first collegiate goal from 30 yards out, widening the lead, 5-0. In the matter of three minutes, Mattocks added a goal to his day (51:15), while junior Nick Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) tallied a goal of his own (54:33). With just under one minute of play in the second half, senior Justin Brandt (Ellicott City, MD / Archbishop Spalding) found freshman Tyler Caterino (Monessen, PA / Monessen) for his first collegiate goal (89:25).
 
Iregui and Mattocks each finished with two goals, one assist, and four shots on goal. Accordino registered one goal and two assists, while Caterino tallied three shots-on-goal and a score. Westminster outshot Penn State Beaver (0-2), 35-4, while also leading in corner kicks, 7-3. Titan senior goalkeeper AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) tallied three saves in a complete-game shutout.
 
Westminster is back on the field Sunday, September 2 against host team Defiance College in the final day of the Defiance College Tournament. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
