Softball: Titans Conclude Season at ECAC Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team fell to Penn State Behrend, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Semifinals.

Westminster (28-10) and Penn State Behrend (32-12) were locked in a pitcher's duel for the first four innings. Titan senior Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) gave up just two hits through the first four innings, while Penn State Behrend pitcher AJ Nichols gave up three. In the top of the fifth inning, Lion left fielder Angela Sullivan doubled down the right field line and advanced to third on a throwing error. During the next at bat, Sullivan scored on a passed ball, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. With no outs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, Westminster sophomore Lauren McNany (Emlenton, PA / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) and senior Hannah Ritter (New Castle, PA / Shenango) hit back-to-back singles to put runners on second and first. Nichols and the Lion defense, however, prevented Westminster from putting up a run in the inning, and held off the Titans the rest of the way.

Rohrer held the Lions to just four hits, giving up one run (unearned) and striking out eight batters. Rohrer ends her Westminster career with a school record 565 strikeouts. Senior Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) finished 2-for-3 with two singles, while senior Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) went 1-for-2 with two walks.

Westminster finishes the season 28-10 overall and 16-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Titans also held a perfect 13-0 record at home.
