Softball: Titans Sweep Saint Vincent on Senior Day

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Saint Vincent College on Sunday afternoon.

Westminster defeated the Bearcats, 6-3, in game one and won game two by a score of 6-0. The Westminster seniors were acknowledged in-between games one and two for their accomplishments throughout their Titan careers.

In game one, Saint Vincent (21-8, 12-5 PAC) struck first in the top of the fourth inning with a three-run double to center field off the bat of Emily Duerr to take the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Titan senior Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) put Westminster (25-7, 16-2 PAC) on the board with a double down the right field line, bringing in junior Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) for a 3-1 game. After senior Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) singled to center, first-year Breanna Tetirick (New Concord, OH / John Glenn) homered to left field, the first of her career, to give Westminster a 4-3 advantage. In the bottom of the fifth, Cohen singled to right center, bringing in two runs to extend the Titan lead, 6-3. Rohrer shut down the Bearcats the rest of the way, earning her 18th win of the season. Rohrer pitched a complete-game, giving up four hits, two earned runs and striking out 14 batters. Rohrer is now nine strikeouts away from tying the all-time Westminster College school strikeout record. Tetirick went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, while Cohen finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

In game two, Titan senior Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) grounded out to second, but scored classmate Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) for an early 1-0 Titan advantage. In the bottom half of the second, Courtney Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) doubled to left field to extend the lead, 2-0. Liverman singled to center field in the bottom of the fifth (3-0) and Rohrer added another run in the fifth inning with a single of her own to widen the lead, 4-0, for Westminster. In the bottom of the sixth, C. Dieterich smacked a two-run home run down the left field line, the first of her career, to put Westminster up, 6-0. Senior Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) earned her fifth win of the season with 6.1 innings of shutout ball. C. Dieterich was a triple away from the cycle as she finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Westfall went 1-for-3 with two runs, a walk and one stolen base.

With the sweep, Westminster clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming PAC Championships. Westminster will travel to Thomas More College for their first game on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. against #3 Saint Vincent. #1 seed Thomas More will face #4 seed Bethany College at noon.

The losers of Friday's opening-round matchups will meet in elimination Game C at 2 p.m., followed by the winners of the two opening-round games facing off at 4 p.m.
