Baseball: Titans Split PAC Twinbill at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Chatham University on Saturday.

Game one was scoreless through the first four innings. Westminster (14-12, 8-8 PAC) changed that in the fifth as junior Hunter Alexander (Falls, PA / Blackhawk) scored the first run of the game with an RBI-single. Westminster added insurance in the seventh inning with four runs. Sophomore Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) connected on an RBI-triple, followed by another RBI-single off the bat of Alexander. Senior Joseph Salmen (New Castle, PA / Union) scored the third run with a single, while senior Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) scored a run with a hit-by-pitch. Chatham (8-21, 1-15 PAC) ruined the shutout with a run in the eighth. The Titans won 5-1. Salmen improved to 3-2 on the season after pitching a one-run complete-game, while striking out six batters and walking one.

Chatham got ahead early in game two with three runs in the first inning. Barnot cut the Cougars' lead to 3-2 with a two-run single in the second, scoring junior Luke Ferlin (Latrobe, PA / Ligonier Valley) and junior Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep). Chatham scored one more run in the fifth and held on for a 4-2 victory. Titan junior pitcher Cory Pullen (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) (4-3) pitched a complete-game, while striking out a career-high 10 batters. Pullen gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits.
