PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Chatham University on the road under the lights Wednesday evening.
Westminster (20-5, 11-0 PAC) defeated Chatham (3-21, 1-11 PAC), 10-0, in five innings in game one and, 11-3, in six innings in game two. Westminster extended its winning streak to 18 games, good for second all-time in school history. The record for most consecutive games won is 19, set back in 2016.
In game one, senior
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) doubled to right center in the top of the first inning, driving in two runs for an early 2-0 Titan lead. Later in the inning, senior
Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) singled down the left field line, scoring Rohrer and junior
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley), to extend the lead, 4-0. Also, in the first, senior
Nikki Anderson (Oakmont, PA / Riverview) singled up the middle, driving in sophomore
Lauren McNany (Emlenton, PA / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) to give the Titans a 5-0 cushion. In the top of the second, Rohrer doubled again to right center, driving in two runs (7-0). Cohen added a double of her own in the bottom of the second, scoring two for a 9-0 Titan lead. In the bottom of the third, Rohrer reached on a fielding error, scoring senior
Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley), putting Westminster ahead 10-0. Rohrer pitched a complete-game-one-hitter, striking out 12 batters for her PAC-leading 15th win of the season. Rohrer also went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting two doubles and driving in four RBIs. Cohen also finished 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. A. Dieterich went 1-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored.
In game two, Westminster struck first again in the top of the first inning off the bat of Liverman (2-0); Liverman reached on a fielder's choice, driving in seniors
Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) and
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango). Cohen extended the Titan lead with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring A. Dieterich for a 3-0 lead. Chatham scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the second off the bat of Cassandra Gray (3-1). First-year
Breanna Tetirick (New Concord, OH / John Glenn) drove in classmate
Leigha Knox (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) in the top of the third, giving Westminster a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars scored two runs to get within one (4-3) of the Titans. Westminster, however, scored seven runs in the next two innings to lead 11-3, winning in six innings. Sophomore
Kayla Troxil (Canfield, OH / Canfield) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and earning her second win of the season. Rohrer closed out the game with 2.1 innings pitched, striking out three and earning her first save of the year. Tetirick went 2-for-4 with a double and a career-high six RBIs.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, April 21 for a doubleheader at PAC opponent Bethany College. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
