STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Franciscan University, 21-7, on the road Wednesday evening.
Westminster, on a four-game winning streak, improved to 4-2 overall, while Franciscan dropped to 3-5 on the season.
Senior
Raymond Shalvoy (Rochester, NY / East Rochester) led the Titans with a game-high seven goals and tied a team-high eight points. Sophomore
Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh) dished out a game- and career-high five assists, while also netting three goals. Freshman
Shane Fisher (Palm Harbor, FL / East Lake) recorded two goals and three assists. Titan junior goalkeeper
Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) registered a team-high five ground balls, to go along with his 10 saves, in a complete game effort.
Westminster got on the board first within the first 15 seconds of the game from Serra (1-0). Two minutes later, junior
Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) scored a goal to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. Shalvoy scored seconds later (3-0) and sophomores
Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) and
Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills) ended the first quarter with goals of their own, giving Westminster a 5-0 lead after one. Shalvoy would score three goals in the second quarter, guiding the Titans to a 10-2 halftime lead. Westminster would outscore Franciscan 7-2 in the third quarter and 4-3 in the fourth.
The Titans outshot the Barons, 56-25, and led 43-35 in groundballs.
The Titans next play conference foe Transylvania University Saturday, March 31 at home starting at 12 p.m.
