Women’s Basketball: Nationally Ranked Thomas More Tops Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 90-33, to nationally ranked Thomas More College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday evening.
 
Thomas More (21-1, 15-0 PAC) took its first double-digit lead when Kelly Clapper made a jumper with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter, putting the Saints up 14-4. Westminster (7-15, 3-12 PAC) cut the Saints' lead to 14-8 after senior Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) drained a jumper with 3:51 remaining. The Saints regained their double-digit lead and led 24-14 at the end of one. In the second quarter, the Titans got within eight points of the Saints' lead (30-22) when junior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) connected on a three-pointer with 3:25 left. The Saints finished the first half strong as they outscored Westminster 21-3 for the remainder of the frame and led 51-25 at intermission. Thomas More outscored Westminster 35-1 in the third and led 80-26 at the end of three.  
 
Mathews led the Titan offense with six points, while senior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) and sophomore Francesca Sicari (Erie, PA / McDowell) each had five points. First-year Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) and Cook added four points each. Sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) grabbed a team-high four rebounds. Sophomore Brooke Lyczek         (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) registered a team-best two blocks, while teammate Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) pocketed a team-high two steals.
 
The Saints outshot the Titans, 51.6% (32-62) to 27.8% (10-36) and held a 35-28 advantage in rebounds.
 
The Titans will next host Grove City College in PAC play Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m. for Senior Day and for their Play4Kay game.
