Women’s Basketball: Titans Fall at Saint Vincent in Hard-Fought PAC Contest

LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 51-47, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Saint Vincent College in the Titans' regular season finale.
 
Westminster (7-18, 3-15 PAC) led by as much as six points in the first quarter (12-6) after sophomore Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) split a pair of free throws with 1:26 on the clock. Saint Vincent (17-8, 14-4 PAC), however, ended the frame with a 5-0 run and the Titans were up 12-11 at the end of one. There would be seven lead changes in the second quarter with the Bearcats earning the seventh to lead 26-25 at halftime.
 
The Titans controlled the third quarter, outscoring the Bearcats 14-7. Westminster took its largest lead of the game, 37-28, when first-year Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) made 1-of-2 at the charity stripe with 3:10 on the clock. The Titans led 39-33 at the end of three quarters. Saint Vincent went back in front after opening the final stanza with an 11-1 run to take a 44-40 lead with 4:29 remaining. Titan senior Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) answered with a three, cutting the Bearcats' lead to 44-43. The Titans got within two points (49-47) of Saint Vincent's lead with eight seconds left when sophomore Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) made a three. The Bearcats sealed the victory after making two free throws in the final seconds.
 
Lyczek scored a game- and season-high 15 points, one shy from tying a career-high. Lyczek also tied a career-high with a game-high four three-pointers. Sophomore Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) also scored in double-digits for Westminster with 11 points. Bennett added nine points. Senior Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) and Greaves led the Titans on the glass with six rebounds each. Greaves also pocketed a team-best two steals.
 
The Titans outshot the Bearcats 40.5% (15-37) to 23.3% (14-60). Saint Vincent held a slight 39-37 edge in rebounds.
 
Westminster has clinched the eighth-seed for the PAC Basketball Championship Tournament and will play at fifth-seed Waynesburg University (14-11, 10-8 PAC) in the First Round on Monday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
