Men’s Basketball: Vrabel Scores 1,000th in Titans’ 80-68 Win Over Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 80-68, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College at home Wednesday evening.

Senior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the 39th Titan ever to reach the milestone.

Geneva (11-13, 7-10 PAC) had an 18-7 lead with 11:22 remaining in the first half. Westminster (17-7, 11-6 PAC) responded with a 12-2 run, capped off with a three-pointer by junior Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield), to cut Geneva's lead to 20-19 with 7:15 on the clock. The Golden Tornadoes went up by as much as six points, however, the Titans took their first lead since the opening seconds when Delorenzo found junior Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) for a three (30-28) at the 3:49 mark. Westminster would not trail again for the remainder of the frame and led by as much as five points twice. The Titans held a 41-37 lead at intermission. The Titans had a double-digit lead twice in the second half, including their largest of 11 points (63-52) when sophomore Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) made a three with 9:59 remaining. Geneva got within three points of Westminster's lead twice, with the latest coming at the 4:00 mark (69-66). That, however, would be the closest Geneva would get for the remainder of the game as the Titans outscored the Golden Tornadoes 11-2.

Armwood scored a team-best 21 points and tied a season-high and career-high with seven made three-pointers. Senior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) and Delorenzo each scored 13 points, while Kane-Johnson added 12. Scott gathered a team-high six rebounds and also dished out a game-high six assists, while Vrabel tied a game-high with two blocks.

Westminster outshot Geneva, 51.8% (29-56) to 45% (27-60). The Golden Tornadoes outrebounded the Titans, 37-29. The Titans shot 62.5% from behind the three-point line, finishing just shy of the school record 66.7% (24-36) for best three-point shooting percentage as a team (minimum 15 made) set back in 2006. The Titans knocked down 15-of-24 threes, setting a new season-high for made three-pointers in a game.

Westminster will close out its regular season with a PAC contest at Saint Vincent College Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 6 p.m.
