YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 104-66, at Division I Youngstown State University (YSU) Wednesday evening.
Youngstown State (3-4) took a 15-6 lead with 15:51 left in the first half. Westminster (1-3) responded with a 7-0 run, capped off with a jumper by sophomore
Josh Hutcherson (Uniontown, OH / Uniontown Lake), to cut the Penguins' lead to two (15-13). Youngstown State took its first double-digit lead (25-15) with 11:49 remaining. The Titans got within single digits following a jump shot by sophomore
Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon) (31-22) with 8:22 left. YSU maintained its lead and was ahead 52-36 at halftime and led in double-digits for the remainder of the contest.
Senior
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) led the Titan offense with 15 points, his third double-figure performance of the year. Armwood also tied with junior
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) with a team-high five rebounds. Additionally, Payne earned a team-best two blocks. Junior
Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) also scored in double-digits for Westminster with a career-high 13 points. Sophomore
Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) and Stamatiades scored nine and seven points, respectively. Stamatiades and sophomore
Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) each pocketed a steal.
The Penguins outshot the Titans, 50.6% (39-77) to 35.9% (23-64) and held a 46-37 advantage in rebounds.
The Titans are back on the court Saturday, November 24 at Franciscan University at 2 p.m.
