Women’s Soccer: Barnhart Nets Game-Winner in OT as Titans Defeat Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Waynesburg University, 3-2, in overtime at home on Wednesday night.

Waynesburg (5-3-2, 0-2 PAC) struck first in the first half as Jill Moyer scored her third goal of the season in the 14th minute, giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, in the 23rd minute, Westminster (9-3-0, 2-0 PAC) first-year Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) scored inside the 18-yard box, her second of the year, to tie the game at one. Sophomore Regan Moorhouse (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) assisted Frank on the play. With time winding down in the first half, senior Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic) found Moorhouse on a corner kick and delivered a score, giving Westminster a 2-1 lead going into halftime. The goal was Moorhouse's first of the season.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets tied the game up at two with a goal from Teagan Jenner in the 75th minute. Jenner earned a free kick just outside the 18-yard box and scored her second goal of the year. With just under five minutes left to play, Waynesburg's Emily Hill created space and shot inside the box, however, first-year goalkeeper Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) came up with a critical save, catching the ball in mid-air to stop the shot and keep the score tied at two. The score would stay the same going into overtime.

In the 96th minute, sophomore Josephine Barnhart (Saint Petersburg, FL / Saint Petersburg) received a pass from junior Kiki Kawarizadeh (New Albany, OH / New Albany) at the 35-yard line and took a shot on goal. The ball fell in between Titan junior Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) and a Waynesburg defender, and skipped off the leg of the Yellow Jacket player, rolling into the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The goal was Barnhart's first of the season.

Westminster edged Waynesburg in shots, 15-13, and led in corner kicks 10-1. Each team recorded nine shots on goal. Holzschuh registered seven saves in a complete-game effort.

Westminster is back in action Saturday, October 6 on the road at PAC foe Geneva College. Start time is set for 11 a.m.
