NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams earned a sweep over non-conference opponent Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.
The Westminster women (1-0) won by a score of 159-113. The Titan men (1-0) won 160-134.
The Titans started the meet with back-to-back 200-yard medley relay victories. For the women, first-year
Marissa Bowers (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls), juniors
Maggie Manolis (Jeannette, PA / Jeannette) and
Nicole Stengel (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton), and senior
Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) swam a time of 1:56.42, while the men's team of
Trevor McCabe (Avon, NY / Avon Central), junior
Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley), and seniors
Clay Murray (St. Thomas, PA / James Buchanan) and
David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) finished with a time of 1:38.95.
For the Titan women, first-year
Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:01.03. Sophomore
Nyna Hess (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Davidson) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.53). Manolis was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.20. In the 200 fly, Stengel swam a first-place time of 1:47.98. Novak won the 50-yard freestyle (26.00) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.78). Patricia Loughney (Buckhannon, WV / Buckhannon Upshur) finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.30). Junior
Kaitlyn Fast (Wooster, OH / Wooster) finished first in the 3-Meter dive with a score of 224.50. Sophomore
Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area) and first-year
Jamie Elia (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) placed second (204.30) and third (172.15), respectively.
For the men, Peffer placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (54.67) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.93). Kwalick swam a first-place time of 22.66 in the 50 free and the 200-yard IM (1:37.82). Junior
Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.99) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.91). Sophomore
Connor May (Highlands Ranch, CO / Glacier Park) swept the diving competition by winning both the 1-Meter dive (289.00) and 3-Meter dive (279.75). May has now scored two regional qualifying scores in the 1-Meter dive, making him eligible for NCAA Regionals for that event. Freshman
Patrick Holton (Livonia, MI / Winston Churchill) finished second in both events (1-Meter/ 248.35) (3-Meter/ 215.35), while freshman
Austin Shaw (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) finished third in both the 1-Meter (202.05) and 3-Meter (213.65).
Westminster is back in action Saturday, November 3 at Allegheny College. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
