CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Westminster College men's soccer team fell, __, to non-conference opponent and nationally ranked #11 Case Western Reserve University on the road Monday night.
Case Western (12-2-1) scored the first goal of the game within the first minute of the first half, taking a 1-0 lead. At the 9:43 mark, the Spartans extended their lead with a 2-0 advantage. The score would stay the same at half time.
In the second half, Case Western scored its third goal in the 51
st minute and led, 3-0. Sophomore
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) put the Titans on the board in the 68
th minute with his 15
th goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game. With the score, Iregui is now tied with Bill Van Ormer (1996) and himself (2017) for most goals in a single season in Westminster history. Senior
Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) assisted Iregui on the play.
Iregui finished with four shots, two shots on goal and a score. Junior
Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) tallied two shots and one shot on goal, while classmate
Ahmed Cisse (Germantown, MD / Clarksburg) finished with two shots. Senior goalkeeper
AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) registered six saves in 71 minutes of work.
Case Western led in shots, 22-13, and led in corner kicks 10-3.
Westminster is back in action Wednesday, October 24 at home against non-conference opponent Carlow University at 7 p.m.
