NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College, 3-0, on Thursday evening.
Westminster improved to 25-2 overall on the season and 12-1 in conference play. Bethany fell to 17-9 overall and 10-3 in the PAC.
Both Bethany and Westminster wore pink warmups to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. Westminster sorority Zeta Tau Alpha also collected money with proceeds going to breast cancer research.
In set one, Bethany held an early 7-5 advantage. However, Westminster conducted an 8-2 to run to take a 13-9 lead. After both teams traded multiple points, the Titans extended their lead by as much as eight (22-14) and won set one, 25-16. Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) to take a 15-13 lead. Westminster led by four points three different times and kept the Bison at bay, winning set two, 25-19. In set three, both teams traded points until the Bison took a four-point, 14-10 lead. Westminster rallied for three-straight points to cut the Bison lead to 14-13. Westminster tied the third set at 16 all off an attacking error by the Bison, and took the lead, 17-16, after a second-straight error from Bethany. Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield). The Bison only scored one more point in set three as the Titans prevailed, winning 25-22.
Saxton led the Titan offense with a match-high 14 kills. Junior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) and first-year
Becky Adelman (Mogadore, OH / Waterloo) tallied 10 and six kills, respectively. DeGeorge registered a match-high three service aces. Senior

Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) totaled 12. Daniels led with a match-high 17 assists and first-year
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) added 12 of her own. Farmerie and Adelman each tied a match-high with three blocks, while sophomore
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) recorded two.
Westminster is back on the court Friday, October 19 at Thiel College for a tri-match starting at 6:30 p.m. The Titans play Hilbert College (6:30 p.m.) followed by PAC opponent Thiel (8:30 p.m.).
