NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Waynesburg University, 80-61, at home Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (3-9, 0-6 PAC) started the game off with a 5-0 run, due in part to a made three-pointer from senior
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler). Quinn knocked down another three towards the end of the first quarter. The Titans led 18-11 at the end of one. Waynesburg (9-4, 5-1 PAC), however, started the second quarter on a 13-3 run and took a 24-11 lead at the 5:35 mark. Titan first-year
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) tied the game, 24-24, with a three-pointer, but the Yellow Jackets controlled the rest of the quarter, going on a 14-3 run to end the first half with a 38-27 lead.
Titan sophomore
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) cut the Yellow Jacket lead to single digits (41-33), scoring six-straight points for Westminster, including a layup at the 8:42 mark. E. Fromknecht scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter, but the Yellow Jackets led, 57-44, at the end of three. Waynesburg led by as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter, however, Westminster mounted a comeback, going on an 11-0 run, cutting Waynesburg's lead to 71-61 with 3:28 left in the game. Waynesburg finished the game on a 9-0 run, fueled by junior Anna Bartman and senior Addy Knetzer.
Titan senior
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, to go along with 10 points. K. Fromknecht now has 600 career points. Sophomore
Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) led the Titans with four assists, while also scoring four points and recording three rebounds. Sophomore
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) scored eight points off the bench for the Titans.
Waynesburg outshot the Titans, 40.3% (27-67) to 34.3% (23-67). The Yellow Jackets also led in the rebounding category, pulling down 48 boards compared Westminster's 40.
Westminster is back on the court at home on Monday, January 8 against Penn. State Beaver. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
