NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University, 91-73, at home Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (10-2, 4-1 PAC), started the first half with a 15-8 lead at the 14:38 mark. Senior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) pushed the Titan lead to double digits (22-12) with 10:40 to go off a made three-pointer. Waynesburg (7-6, 3-3 PAC), fueled by senior guard Jon Knab, used the rest of the half to outscore the Titans, 28-8, to take a 40-30 lead into halftime.
Waynesburg controlled the early part of the second half, leading 50-40 at the 15:55 mark. Junior forward
Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) and sophomore
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) each capitalized on a steal and an and-1 layup to bring the Titans back within two, 54-52, with 12:59 left to play. Delorenzo made a free throw to give Westminster its first lead (55-54) since the 2:33 mark of the first half. At the 10:23 mark and the Titans down one, Delorenzo scored nine-straight points to give Westminster a 66-59 lead. The Titans never looked backed, winning by 18 points.
Delorenzo finished with career-highs in both points (23) and rebounds (8). Senior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) registered a career- and game-high 26 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, earning his sixth double-double of the season and 25
th of his career. Junior
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) dished out a game-high eight assists. Vrabel finished with 11 points, four rebounds, and one block.
Westminster outshot the Yellow Jackets, 50.7% (34-67) to 39.4% (26-66). The Titans also outrebounded Waynesburg, 48-32.
The Titans' next game is at Thiel College on Monday, January 8 with the tip-off set for 7 p.m.
