NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 83-43, at home to Saint Vincent College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game Saturday afternoon.
Saint Vincent (9-6, 6-2 PAC) jumped out to a 15-2 lead, following a 15-0 run, with 5:04 on the clock. Westminster (4-11, 0-8 PAC) ended the run when sophomore
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) earned a steal and made a fast-break layup with 4:09 left. The Bearcats responded with a 10-4 run and led 25-8 after one. In the second quarter, the Bearcats maintained their double-digit lead and led by as much as 20 points twice, with the latest coming with 4:44 remaining. Saint Vincent led 40-24 at intermission. The Bearcats led 64-41 after three and outscored the Titans, 19-2, in the fourth.
Lyczek scored a team-high 10 points, while pocketing a team- and career-high four steals. Sophomore
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) and junior
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) registered nine and eight points, respectively. Sophomore
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) added six points. E. Fromknecht grabbed a team-best five boards, while senior
Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) and first-year
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) had four boards each. Sophomore
Maggie Monahan (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) had a team- and career-high two blocks.
The Bearcats outshot the Titans, 43.8% (28-64) to 31.9% (15-47), and held a 41-34 advantage in rebounds.
Westminster will next play at Geneva College in PAC action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
