NEW WILMINGTON, Pa – The Westminster College women's soccer team won 3-1 against Penn State Altoona in its home opener on Wednesday night.
Westminster freshman
Alexandria Applin (Beavercreek Township, OH / Beavercreek) scored the opening goal for the Titans. Applin received a pass from senior midfielder
Melissa Thomas (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) and struck the back of the net in the 8
th minute. Thomas found the back of the net herself in the 22
nd minute, receiving a long cross from sophomore
Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) to put the Titan's on top 2-0.
Early in the second half, Penn State Altoona's Kierra Irwin scored from the top of the 18-yard box to make the score 2-1. Assisting Irwin on the play was sophomore Jenna Mickel.

th minute, Titan junior
Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic) converted on a penalty kick, putting the Titans up 3-1. The Titans held off the Lions the rest of the way, improving their record to 3-0-0 on the season.
Westminster outshot the Lions 21-8 for the game. The Titans also had eight corner kicks, while the Lions had zero.

Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) had two saves in a complete game effort.
The Titans are back in action Saturday, September 9 as they take on Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. Kickoff is at 1 pm.
