PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost, 4-0, on Friday evening to No. 21 Carnegie Mellon University.
The Tartans scored their first goal at the 3:01 mark, off the foot of Jack Painter. Five minutes later, Zack Masciopinto tallied Carnegie Mellon's second goal. Anthony Gulli extended the Tartans' lead to 3-0 with a score at the 35:32 mark; Carnegie Mellon led by the same at halftime. The Tartans registered their final goal in the 79
th minute of the second half courtesy of Nicolas Poveda.
Westminster was outshot by Carnegie Mellon, 14-7. The Tartans also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Titan senior
Zack Walters (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) led the team in shots with three for the game. Seniors
Fedja Smajic (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) and
Grant Gagnon (Johnstown, PA / Westmont Hilltop) along with junior
Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) each totaled one shot on goal.
Titan junior
AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) (2-4-1) collected six saves in 79:07 minutes of work.
The Titans fell to 2-4-1 on the year, while the Tartans improved to 4-1.
Westminster is back in action Sunday, September 17 at Penn College with a 4 p.m. start time.
