GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team split its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Grove City College on Tuesday.
The Titans shut out the Wolverines in game one, 2-0, and lost, 3-2, in 11 innings in game two.
In game one, Titan junior pitcher
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) improved to 16-1 after pitching a four-hit shutout, her sixth shutout of the season. She had 10 strikeouts and one walk. Rohrer also made an impact at the plate as she scored the two Titan runs with a single in the first inning, scoring senior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) and senior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport). Nardone and junior
Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) each added a hit for Westminster.
Grove City (13-19, 3-13 PAC) took a 2-0 lead in game two with two runs in the first inning. Lindsey cut the Wolverines' lead, 2-1, with a run in the third and Rohrer tied the game at 2 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, bringing home sophomore
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley). Neither team could score in the first three extra innings. The Wolverines scored the walk-off run in the bottom of the 11
th after Maddie Brubaker scored Liz Scherer with a sacrifice fly. The Titans outhit the Wolverines, 11-4. Cohen registered a game-high three hits, while Lindsey and junior
Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) each had two hits. Lindsey, Liverman, and junior
Courtney Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) each tallied a double, while Lindsey also connected on a triple. Rohrer (16-2) came in for relief and pitched 5.2 innings, while giving up one run (none earned) on one hit. She struck out seven and walked three.
Westminster (26-8, 14-2 PAC) is back on the field Thursday, April 27 when it travels to Penn State Altoona for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 3:30 p.m.
