NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 90-66, to fifth-seeded Bethany College in the 2016-17 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at home Tuesday evening.
Three Titans scored in double-digits, led by junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) with 17 points, to go along with seven rebounds. Junior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) registered his ninth double-double of the season as he grabbed down a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) also scored in double-figures with 11 points. Freshman
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) and sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) each scored eight points. Junior
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) dished-out a game-high six assists. Vrabel and senior
Coty Gander (Stoneboro, PA / Lakeview) each had a block. Kane-Johnson pocketed a game-high three steals.
The Bison outshot the Titans 50.8% (33-65) to 37.5% (24-64) and outrebounded them 44-33.
Bethany (15-11), down 4-3, went on a 10-0 run and led 13-4 with 14:57 on the clock. The Bison took their largest lead, 17-6, with 13:07 remaining. Westminster (15-11) responded with a 14-6 run to cut Bethany's lead to 23-20 with 8:02 left. Down 34-26, the Titans orchestrated a 7-1 run, capped off with a three-pointer by Pilarski, to cut the Bison's lead to 35-33. Pilarski tied the game at 38 with another three with 1:08 remaining. Bethany led 41-38 at halftime. Westminster got within three-points, 47-44, of Bethany's lead, after a jumper by Vrabel with 15:51 remaining. Bethany, however, mustered a 26-8 run and led 73-52 with 8:34 to go. The Bison maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
