GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 65-60, at Grove City College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Titan freshman
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) scored a team-high 18 points, including a game-best four three-pointers. Junior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) also scored in double-digits with 12 points and tied with junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) for a team-best eight rebounds. Senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) and Vrabel added eight and seven points, respectively, while junior
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) and sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) each had six. Scott also dished-out a team-high four assists. Vrabel added a game-best three blocks, while Pilarski had a team-high two steals.
The Wolverines outshot the Titans 46.2% (24-52) to 30.5% (18-59) and held a 44-29 advantage in rebounds.
The first half consisted of four ties and eight lead changes. Westminster (14-9, 10-6 PAC) took its largest lead of the half, 13-8, after Kane-Johnson made a three-pointer with 12:35 on the clock. Grove City (12-11, 8-8 PAC) had its largest lead, 25-20, with 3:50 on the clock. The Wolverines led 30-29 at intermission. For the half, the Wolverines outshot the Titans 53.8% (14-26) to 28.6% (8-28), while Kane-Johnson led all scores with 16 points. The second half started with 10 more lead changes and three ties. The final tie was 48-48 when Armwood made a three-pointer with 9:26 remaining. The Wolverines went on a 15-7 run to take a 63-55 lead with 1:52 left. The Titans answered with a 5-0 run to cut Grove City's lead to 63-60, which was capped off with a layup by Vrabel, with 54 seconds on the clock. On its next possession, Westminster had two chances to tie the game, however, two three-point attempts were unsuccessful. Grove City sealed the win after a pair of free throws in the final seconds.
The Titans will next travel to Geneva College on Wednesday, February 15 with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
