NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 78-71, over non-conference foe Kenyon College at home Tuesday night.
Westminster, on a six-game winning streak, improved to 9-1 overall, while Kenyon dropped to 4-5.
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by senior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) and sophomore
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles), who each tied a game-high with 18 points. Senior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) and sophomore
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) each registered 11 points. Scott grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, earning his fifth double-double of the season and 24
th of his career. Junior
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) added nine points. Vrabel had eight rebounds, while Kane-Johnson tallied six. Kane-Johnson also tied a game-high with five assists. Sophomore
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) tied a career-high with two blocks, to go along with six points.
The Titans shot a season-high 49.1% (28-57), compared to Kenyon's 40.3% (27-67). The Lords held a 39-34 advantage in rebounds.
Kenyon was up 11-6 with 14:29 to go in the first half. The Titans responded with a 24-10 run, capped off with a three by Kane-Johnson, and led 30-21 with 5:16 on the clock. Westminster did not lose the lead for the remainder of the frame and led 38-33 at intermission. The Titans took a 49-39 lead with 16:15 to play in the second half, however, the Lords went on a 23-13 run to tie the game at 62 with 6:15 remaining. Westminster pulled away with an 11-1 run to take a 73-63 lead with 51 seconds left.
The Titans are back on the court Wednesday, January 3 with a road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Thomas More College at 7:30 p.m.
