NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 78-50, over non-conference foe Franciscan University of Steubenville at home Saturday afternoon.
Westminster took a 15-2 lead after senior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) converted on a traditional three-point play with 14:20 on the clock. The Titans took their largest lead of the first half (24-6) after sophomore
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) made a jumper at the 10:25 mark. The Barons got within single digits of Westminster's lead twice, with the latest coming with 2:09 remaining (32-23). The Titans led 35-25 at halftime. Franciscan started the second half with a jumper to cut the Titans' lead to 35-27. Anthony Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) made a three with 46 seconds left.
Three Titans scored in double figures, led by sophomore
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) with 19 points, including a game-best four three-pointers. Kane-Johnson also dished out a game – and season-high five assists. Scott and junior
Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) registered 12 and 10 points, respectively. Delorenzo's point total tied a career-high. Sophomore
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) added nine points, while sophomore
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) had seven. Freshman
Malique Burton (Cleveland, OH / Holy Name) tallied a career-high six points. Scott led on the glass with a game-high seven rebounds, while Delorenzo tied a season-best with five boards. Senior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) pocketed a game-high three steals, to go along with five points.
Westminster outshot Franciscan, 46.8% (29-62) to 38.5% (20-52) and held a 35-33 advantage in rebounds. The Titans made 11 three-pointers, to Franciscan's zero.
The Titans improved to 4-1 overall, while the Barons dropped to 0-4.
The Titans return to the court Wednesday, Nov. 29 for their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at Chatham University at 8 p.m.
