Volleyball: Titans Outlast Marymount for ECAC Semifinal Win, Advance to Championship

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Westminster College volleyball team defeated Marymount University, 3-2 (18-25, 25-11, 25-18, 17-25, 18-16) in the semifinals of the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Volleyball Championship on Sunday.
 
Westminster was up 2-1, before Marymount won the fourth set forcing a fifth frame. In the decisive set, the Titans were down 7-4. Westminster, however, went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Titans were ahead until Marymount tied it at 14. Marymount had two match-point opportunities, with the latest at 16-15. However, the Titans continued to battle and won the set and the match after outscoring Marymount 3-0, which was capped off with two-straight kills by senior Lexie Yoho (Pittsburgh, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart).
 
Yoho registered a match- and career-high 23 kills, to go along with six blocks, and an ace.  Senior Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Cochranton) tallied eight kills, 12 digs, and five blocks. Junior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) had six kills. Sophomore Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) led the Titan defense with a match- and career-high 32 digs, to go along with a match-best three service aces. Junior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) tallied 29 digs. Junior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) earned a team-high 20 assists, while junior Ashley Barker (Warren, PA / Warren Area) totaled 16.
 
Westminster improved to 29-6 overall, while Marymount dropped to 16-15. The Titans will play the winner of the Fairleigh Dickinson and Brandeis match in the ECAC Championship today at 2 p.m.
