Men’s Soccer: Titans End Regular Season with Loss to Grove City, 6-3

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.- The Westminster College men's soccer team lost at home to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City College, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster finished the regular season 8-9-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the PAC, while the Wolverines improved to 10-4-4 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference.
 
Grove City scored three goals in the first half, including a third minute goal from Jonathan Burton, a fifth minute goal off the foot of Peter Tobias, and a 14th minute goal from Christian Caporaso. The Wolverines led at halftime, 3-0.
 
In the second half, Grove City's Christian Caporaso scored his second goal in the 52nd minute to widened the lead, 4-0. In the 64th minute, Titan freshman Nick Iregrui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) took a pass from senior Jon Clark (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) inside the penalty box and scored to shorten the Wolverine lead, 4-1.
 
Just minutes later in the 70th minute, Iregui again scored from a Clark pass inside the penalty box to make the score, 4-2. Grove City answered back with two more goals (in the 82nd and 88th minutes), wideneing the lead to 6-2. Iregui found the back of the net one last time in the 89th minute to give himself a hat trick.
 
Titan sophomore Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) led Westminster in shots with seven. Junior Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) totaled six shots (one on goal) and sophomore Nick Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) had one shot, including one shot on goal.
 
Titan junior goalkeeper AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) tallied three saves in 45 minutes of work, while freshman Chance Herbst (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) finished with two saves in 45 minutes of play.
 
Westminster outshot the Wolverines, 21-13 and led in the corner kick department, 3-2. Grove City led in shots on goal with 11 compared to Westminster's six.
 
Prior to the match, the Titans recognized seniors Fedja Smajic (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin), Grant Gagnon (Johnstown, PA / Westmont Hilltop), Zack Walters (Hermitage, PA / Hickory), Kornel Foremski (Shaker Heights, OH / Shaker Heights), Sergio Collazo (Burlington, NJ / Burlington Township), and Clark for Senior Day.
